He joined the Goodman Theatre's touring company later in 1971. There, he appeared in the children's musical comedy The Magic Isle. He was part of the original Chicago GODSPELL cast, and later was cast in the film version.
In the film Godspell, in the scene when Jesus is being crucified, he was the only character to literally cry.
Sadly, Merrell had passed away on February 23, 1991.
Merrell is sorely missed by many and shall be remembered always.

Character notes:
Not the brightest in the bunch, he is a little slow on the uptake. But there is a great sweetness and innocence about him. Because he sings "All Good Gifts," he must be a very good singer.
(Tenor – high A)

Costume notes:
Tiger Jacket - Mickey Mouse T-shirt, Suspenders, Red Pants , Tennis Shoes, Little Green Hat, Kindly Old-Man - always smiling image. Lack of movement because he is so big.

My Thoughts:
"Aw, I love him. He's got that sweet face and gentle nature. It's a shame he was only in GODSPELL. I was so depressed when I found out about his death- found out about the others all at the same time, so I was pretty darn depressed. Just like Jeffrey, he has this sort of air about him that makes you want to run up and hug him. Especially when he's being goofy. His singing voice is incredible. And he's rockin' that fro! Miss you, Merrell!"Y
Merrell Jackson was born on April 26, 1952, in Illinois. Much of his acting experience came from performances on stage in his hometown. Merrell graduated from Chicago's Calumet High School in 1971. During his senior year, he played King Melchior in a school production of the Christmas opera Amahl and the Night Visitors that was shown on local television.
